Come October 24thand the mundane roar of the salty
waters surrounding Surathkal shall be dashed with a new tonnage of energy.
Well, for those of you whose cerebral cells are conjuring some kind of
celestial phenomenon that could explain the energy levels of the country’s west
coast, it’s time to do a rethink! This yet-to-unleash, new found energy shall
be sourced by an earthly solstice (if one may say so) that is scheduled to
happen over 5 exciting days within the portals of an important landmark that
dots the Arabian shore of our mighty nation.
No breakthrough’s yet?! Time to end the suspense and the metaphorical
jargon I suppose. The mega-event that the cryptic paragraph above refers to is –
‘ENGINEER’13’ (Oct 24th–Oct 27th 2013) – by far the
biggest and brightest version of the annual technical symposium of NITK Surathkal.
So, what’s in store this time around? Come... Let’s explore!
A plethora of competitions from a multitude of engineering
disciplines form the core of Engineer. From designing, modeling and testing
structures in ’Colossus’ (Civil Event) to making underwater bots in ‘Proteus’
(Mechanical Event) and combining the elements of electronic circuit with a keen
sense of aestheticism to design a sound and light controller for ‘Symphony’
(Tronix Event) to designing efficient algorithms for ‘Inscription’ (Computer
Event that has witnessed the likes of teams from Stanford, Microsoft, Yahoo,
etc.) … Engineer has it all. Robotics Events and Online Events have found large
number of takers over the years.
These were a select few events from a myriad of exhilarating
events, information about which can be accessed on our swanky new website www.engineer.org.in.
“Huh... That’s too
much of tech…” Well, hold on, for
Engineer is pretty diverse. The ‘Biz Events’ (E-Pitch, Ad-Venture, Mock-Stock)
have been custom-made to suit the prospective number-chasers on BSE, NSE, NYSE,
etc. The ‘MBA Events’ (Operasi, Finanza, Personeel among others) could be a
good pick for the management-gurus of tomorrow.
“Is that all?”
Definitely not. Engineer comprises of action-packed days and fun-filled nights.
While various events dot the day, there are ‘Workshops’ and ‘Tech
Speaks’ that shall happen alongside them as well. As the day draws to a close
and the night sets in, the beauty of Engineer is brought to life by ‘Technites’,
which helps participants rejuvenate themselves after the grueling sessions of
the day. Professional Laser show, Real Life Gaming developed in-house,
Star-gazing sessions (Astro Event) are to name a few. Summing it up, ‘Technites’
is a fine blend of Engineering and Entertainment.
Team Engineer’s endeavor to transcend its own limits has led
to the genesis of ‘Chronus’. Featuring in the docket of ‘Chronus’ are
Stop-motion photography, “Feeding the Fish” Pexel-Poi-technical juggling etc.,
which we can proudly proclaim are a first in our nation. Wondering what they actually
are? Well, it’d be a sin to reveal too much, for it shall certainly sound good
when told but is best when experienced. So… Do spare your dates for the same!
Just in case you are under the illusion that we at NITK are
high-on-tech but socially-disenchanted brats, I’d say you are gravely wrong.
One of the unique and most acclaimed parts of Engineer is ‘Socially Conscious
Engineering’ that includes India Innovates (frugal innovations), Last Word
(panel discussions), etc.
Having gone through this list of enchanting new event names,
it is all but natural for our grey matter to start figuring out what they mean?
Well… a quick sneak-peak into our website and the cells of your grey matter
will be a happier and intrigued lot.
Before signing off, I’d like to quote an anonymous
intellectual who happened to sum up the spirit of Engineer in a brilliant way
“The essence of being
an Engineer does not lie in the ability to fill the gaps in existing
technology; it lies instead in the art of original thinking, in creating new
avenues as yet unexplored. It is this spark of inspiration that converts an
idea, through the aid of science to a plan on paper and later to working
reality. In tribute to this all important aspect of engineering we celebrate
ENGINEER, the technical symposium of NITK Surathkal.”
THINK. CREATE.
ENGINEER.
